NEWHOPE

Hazel was a hopeful man.
Trouble came, he up and ran.
Got fed up and he quit his job.
Threw his television in the tub.
Went for a ride in his pick-up truck. He had miles and miles of bad luck.
Pulled out a pump at the county line and he blew a big hole in the city limits sign.

He said goodbye, I’m going down to Newhope, guess I’m gonna buy some land.
I’m going down to Newhope, I’m gonna be a new man.
I’m going down to Newhope, i guess I’m gonna go it alone.
I’m going down to Newhope, cuz that’s where i belong.

Well, he drove all night and he drove all day.
Talked to himself to stay awake.
Dreamed about a life all safe and warm with a pretty little wife and a pretty little farm.
He wiped that tear right out of his eye and watched another mile die.
He gassed her up and he hit it again and he drove her straight into who knows when.

He said, I’m going down to Newhope, guess I’m gonna buy some land.
I’m going down to Newhope, I’m gonna be anew man.
I’m going down to Newhope, i guess I’m gonna go it alone.
I’m going down to Newhope, cuz that’s where i belong…I’m gone.
