BEAUTIFUL GIRL
She
was born in a city
with shiny blue eyes
Oh, she was so beautiful that the doctor cried
They all said to each other, “What a beautiful child.”
Well, her daddy
would hold her
but he held her too tight
And he came in her room
in the dead of the night
He was sick with the touch
Oh, of a beautiful girl
Well, she begged
for her money
She had dirt on her skin
and the bruises came out
and the sorrow went in
She said, “I don’t need nothing!
Naw, I’m a beautiful girl.”
Well,
she found her a man
On the wrong side of town
and she slept in his bed
when his wife weren’t around
She got shot with a bullet
from a beautiful girl
Well that
shot did not kill her
but it messed up her face
and the doc tried to fix up
what he could not erase
He said, “Oh, what a shame.
She was a beautiful girl.”
Well she
went back to Huntsville
started dancin’ in a bar
and she wore a red scarf
Oh, to hide all them scars
and men laid down their money
for a beautiful girl
