GEORGIA O'KEEFE
Oh
yea you guessed it I was drinkin in some bar
It was van and jack…two friends of mine…we were sittin
in the dark
And I was…waitin…waitin for the pain to pass
Van was on the radio and jack was in my glass
Well about the time I hit the bottom this redhead walks in off the
street
My heart hit the table…I tried to look discreet
She said “My name is Georgia”
I said “Hey baby you sure been on my mind”
She said “Hey you’re real funny…ya oughta call
me up sometime”
So I called her up and it rang and rang and rang and rang…she
wudn’t home
So I sat back down beside her and I said “Oh I shoulda known”
“So you say your name is Georgia…can I call you O’Keefe?”
She said “honey as long as you’re buyin you can call
me anything”
We drank a hundred shots of whiskey on the rocks
I tipped the waiter fifty bucks but I stole all the clocks
Well we stumbled out into the street lookin for my car
Hey HAWK where is it man…it’s over there…ah ok
Well O’Keefe was walkin funny and I was seriously in love
I fell down on the concrete
I still say I was shoved
We caught a cab to arizona…the desert was immense
I started howling at the moon…the cabby he got tense
Well he pulled up to a cactus and told me to get out
So I took O’Keefe and I left the clocks and I headed for the
south
Well it only took me…uh…about an hour to get to alabama
I swear I could have proved it but I forgot my camera
Then we toured the southland in a traveling minstrel show
O’Keefe swallowed baby seals while I played the banjo
Well everything was goin great man I swear to god everything was down
Til one night I got kinda drunk and crazy and started playin some
james brown
Well they chased us through the cotton fields and smooth to the next
state
Where this sign says “You’re in Georgia”
I said “That’s the best news I heard all night!”
Well I almost melted from the passion in her eyes
She took off all her clothes and she did not apologize
And I said “…um…um…I’m sorry I didn’t
bring a map?”
And she said “Honey don’t you worry now this ain’t
no tourist trap”
We made love beneath the stars that fell on alabama
It was such a pretty picture but I still didn’t have my godam
camera
When I woke up O’Keefe was gone and I began to swear…godamit
She didn’t even leave a note man but all her clothes were there
Well I ran all the way back across the united states
and I ran back in that bar
and I called her on the telephone
and luckily she was there
and I said “Hey baby how could you
do this
after all that we’ve been through?”
And she said “I’ve been home all night and who the
hell are you?”
…Oooh Georgia Georgia Georgia…O’Keefe
